Consult Before You Regret

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

From people’s states is there are many people who think they are smart but harm themselves. There haven’t been as many people who harm themselves as the people of this time, the end of times. They cause all kinds of harm to others and to themselves. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla doesn’t like these people.

Now the matter is we must be careful. Liars have increased, fraudsters have increased, thieves have increased. Those who do not recognize the ḥarām and the ḥalāl have increased. That’s why, people must be careful. If you’re going to do something, if you’re going somewhere, consult. Consultation is a Sunnah. Consultation means getting advice, to ask someone else’s advice, to ask someone else: “What this is? Is it possible or is it not? Is it good or is it bad?” We must ask.

These people who are already frauds or deceivers hurry up people anyways, “Do it right away!” If you’re going to do something, don’t rush. Especially if you are going to give money. Don’t give money to someone else just to do something. We’ve said it a hundred times. We’ve said it a thousand times. They come after they get ripped off and ask, “What shall I do?” Do you have a paper? “No.” Do you know him? “I know him. I saw this man and believed him. He is a Muslim. His state is good.” If he is a Muslim, then he fulfills the order of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. You must write everything. You must guarantee yourself. Especially when you say you will borrow money from someone else and do a job, it gets even worse and worse. It means you got ripped off.

So be careful. This money is a favor that Allāh ﷻ has given you. Don’t let it be taken by others, by a liar, a fraud, etc. You must be vigilant because you are Muslim. In matters of business, do as much as you can. Don’t trust anyone else. Don’t think, “I’m sunk. Now, I’m going to get out.” If someone else comes to you and says, “There’s such and such good job. We will immediately win.” “Wait, let’s see, my brother. There are places I must go and ask.” “No, it can’t be like that. You must rush. If you don’t answer now, we’ll miss it.” Let it be missed! If it’s going to be missed, let it be missed. Tell them, “I didn’t find my money on the street.” Scold the one who comes like that.

And don’t look at his appearance either: turbaned, bearded, wearing a Jubbah. That’s just another trick to deceive people. “I’m the murīd (disciple) of this one. I’m the wakīl (representative) of that one.” Don’t be fooled by those either. Don’t be fooled by anyone, so that you don’t commit sin, and so that you don’t make others commit sin. If you don’t give them, you will have saved your money, and the other will not have committed sin.

People these days have no such thing as conscience. They are fooling people. They are cheating people. Many people are fooling others saying, “I am a Sūfi. I am a Muslim.” There are those who deceive in every way. Those who deceive people the most are those who say they are good Muslims.

So be careful. Not just here, but all over the world, there are many fraudsters, dishonest and unscrupulous people. So don’t feed and give them. The most important thing is consultation. “This man will do such a job. He gave me a nice offer. We will do it like this and like that. How is this?” Beware. 99% of it is a lie. If it weren’t a lie, then stupidity. Sometimes people say they will do business and come up with it from their minds. They take money from others. While thinking they will make money, they go bankrupt and others go bankrupt. If there is no fraud they become disgraced. May Allāh ﷻ protect us from such people.

As we said, don’t come after it’s done. Don’t ask, “What are we going to do?” Nothing, have a glass of water on top of that. Consult before that. You hurried, you regretted it, no du’ā’s or anything will help anymore. And the person will have committed a sin. Allāh ﷻ knows where he will have eaten poison, where he will have spent that money. Those are fake, dishonest, dishonorable, unscrupulous people. May Allāh ﷻ protect us from their evil. May Allāh ﷻ protect us.

Al-Fatiha.
