Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm
إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ إِخْوَةٌ فَأَصْلِحُوا بَيْنَ أَخَوَيْكُمْ ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ
(Qur’ān 49:10)
“Innama l-mu’minūna ikhwa fa-‘aslihu bayna akhawaykum wa t-Taqu Allaha La’allakum Turhamoon”
“The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.
Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, believers are brothers. Brotherhood of īmān is more important than actual brotherhood.
In the time of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, there were many Muslim ṣaḥābah who had kāfir brothers. The brotherhood of old times is not like nowadays. Now it doesn’t hold the same importance. It was very important back then.
Fatherhood and brotherhood were the most important thing in life. But when you embrace Islām, they are not important. What’s important is brotherhood on the way of Allāh ﷻ. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gives it great importance.
Believers, Muslims are brothers. They should help each other. They should love each other. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says in ḥadīth sharif, “Do not be jealous of one another. Do not be hostile to one another. Do not harm one another.”
A Muslim should help his Muslim brother in any way he can, as much as he can. Of course, he can’t do everything, but it would still be good to at least support him, as much as he can. To help him and defend him is also very important, says our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.
A believer who defends his believer brother in his absence, has a great thawāb and reward. Now, people accuse others of things that are not true. Those who defend them will attain great thawāb and reward. Because people constantly form su’ zann (bad assumptions) about others.
When they form these bad assumptions, enmity, resentment and hurt sometimes arises among them. Therefore, so that this enmity between them is removed, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says this, Muslims are brothers. Even if your Mu’min brother is not your actual brother, he is more important than a blood brother who is not on the right way.
So to reconcile them brings Allāh’s ﷻ mercy upon people. Mercy is the most important thing. People await material benefit. But the mercy and compassion of Allāh ﷻ is the most important thing for people. People don’t appreciate or value it. They don’t give it importance.
May Allāh ﷻ grant love. May Allāh ﷻ help us all. May shayṭān not enter among us. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
