Barakah of Visiting the Graves of Holy Ones

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam praised this island, the island we are in. Shukr to Allāh ﷻ, this is a place honored by Muslims from the very beginning of Islām. These places are the places chosen by Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla to have both Islām and most of the Prophets.

Most of them originated from this region, from these places, such as the Hijaz, Damascus, Yemen, etc. Of course, Allah ﷻ sent Prophets all over the world; Prophets to everyone. But essentially, these are blessed places because most of the Prophets originated from these places.

They are blessed because they are places where Prophets traveled and conveyed the message. This is the place where Islām and humanity were born. Of course, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla created Adam ‘alayhi s-salām in Paradise and he remained there. When he was sent down to Earth, most of the Prophets from his lineage and descendants lived in these lands.

Their blessed places and blessed graves are numerous in these parts. Visiting them is both barakah and Himmah from those Prophets to those visiting. Then, visiting the graves of the Companions, the Ahlu l-Bayt, the Awliyā’, and the Righteous brings barakah, manifestation and mercy to people, to Muslims – because wherever they are, mercy descends until qiyāmah.

Therefore, visiting them benefits those who do so. Don’t listen to those foolish people today, “You worship graves.” No, why should we worship graves? If we are to worship, we know where to worship. Not what you say. We worship Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. We worship Him ﷻ towards the qibla. We are going on the way shown by our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, shukr to Allāh ﷻ.

Here, on our island, there are blessed Companions and Awliyā’. Some of them are known, some are unknown. Even Barnabas, one of ‘Isa ‘alayhi s-salām disciples who wrote the true Gospel, is here. His tomb is here. He can be visited, too.

He has nothing to do with Christianity. He is not an idol worshipper. His Gospel is the true Gospel. They don’t show it; that’s another matter. But he was present during Prophet ‘Isa ‘alayhi s-salām’s travels and was with him. It is the true Gospel he wrote.

It explains and indicates Sayyidina ‘Isa ‘alayhi s-salām being a Prophet. Even Christians know him as Barnabas, even in famous books. But they only know him by name. They don’t know anything else. They don’t know that he wrote the Gospel.

There is his Gospel, but of course, if that Gospel were to come out, all their false things would be exposed. They won’t have a religion. They would all have to become Muslims. They don’t want to do that either. They hide it, they conceal it for worldly gain, for personal benefit, for power, for all sorts of reasons. Only to comply with shayṭān’s command, to be with shayṭān.

Therefore, these things are important. Graves are not for worship. We visit them to attain their barakah and the mercy bestowed upon them. And also, to see how beautifully these people lived, how they served Islām, how they obeyed Allāh ﷻ, and how they guided others—that is a very important thing, a very beautiful thing.

Visiting the graves of the righteous, the Prophets. First and foremost, the honorable grave of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, the crown of our heads, the light of our eyes. That is the first and foremost. After that, the Companions, Ahlu l-Bayt, and so on, are all visited. Their barakah is received, with Allāh’s ﷻ permission.

There are many people confusing others. Don’t listen to them. They neither know what they’re saying, nor understand what they’re reading, and they won’t give up their stubbornness. They’re not important. What’s important is that Allāh ﷻ created us in these beautiful places and put us on this beautiful way.

May Allāh ﷻ perpetuate this way. And may we remain on this way forever, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
