Avoiding Evil Is Our Duty

BismiLlahi r-Rahmani r-Raḥīm

‘وَقِهِمُ السَّيِّئَاتِ ۚ وَمَن تَقِ السَّيِّئَاتِ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَدْ رَحِمْتَهُ’

(Qur’ān 40:09)

‘Wa Qihimu As-Sayyi’āti Wa Man Taqī As-Sayyi’āti Yawma’idhin Faqad Raĥimtah’

‘And protect them from the evil consequences [of their deeds]. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day – You will have given him mercy.’ Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Doing good and staying away from evil is a duty for a believer, for the people of ṭarīqah. Avoiding sin and all kinds of evil is also meritorious; it is something that Allāh ﷻ loves. Allāh’s ﷻ mercy is bestowed upon that person.

In Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, Protect us from evil. Whoever is protected from evil attains Allāh’s ﷻ mercy. That mercy is the most precious thing for people. It is precious, but people don’t know its value.

They have no idea what is precious, what is good, what is bad. In these times, they know the bad as good and the good as bad. In the past, they knew a little about evil. But now, as we said, it’s the opposite; they command evil and forbid good.

However, the commands of Islām are: command good, forbid evil, warn people. It should be as, “That is evil, don’t do it.” Everything has been turned upside down in this time. These evil deeds are neither humane, nor religious, nor acceptable in any way.

Therefore, we must pay attention to this. Even if you cannot do much good, at least stay away from evil, do not do evil. Even if you cannot fulfill Allāh’s ﷻ commands, at least obey His ﷻ command to “stay away from evil.” Remember; this is not a good thing.

When you are not yet able to do good but you stay away from evil, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla bestows His ﷻ mercy upon you. Then, you begin to do good, and all doors of goodness open.

May Allāh ﷻ protect us all. May we live with goodness and stay away from evil. May Allāh ﷻ guide even the bad people. May He ﷻ grant them goodness, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.

There are recited Qur’ān Khatms, Yasin, Tabarakah, ayāt, surahs, salawat, tasbihat, tahlilāt. We gift them to the soul of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, for the souls of his Ahlu l-Bayt and ṣaḥābah. For the souls of all prophets, Awliyā’, asfiya, mashāyikh.

For the souls of our ancestors. May the good goals of those who have recited be reached. For happiness here and hereafter for us al. For the strength of our īmān. Li-Llahi Ta’ala.
