Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

“وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا”
(Qur’an 78:9)
“Wa Ja`alnā Nawmakum Subātāan”
“And made your sleep [a means for] rest.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.
Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n, “We gave you sleep for comfort.” Of course, people dream while sleeping. Most people don’t remember their dreams. Some people remember, they say, “We see scary dreams.” They complain, “We see jinn, we see this, we see that.” They ask, “What should we do?” Dreams have no effect.
That’s why, if you don’t tell someone about them saying, “I had a scary dream,” nothing happens; they’ll have no effect. But if you tell an irrelevant person about them, and they try to interpret and explain what they mean, may Allāh ﷻ protect us, if they interpret them badly, it usually turns out to be bad.
Therefore, if you saw a dream, good or bad, don’t tell everyone, especially, to someone who doesn’t know. If you’re going to tell someone, tell it first to someone who interprets them well, so that they can be a means to goodness. Otherwise, you’ll get into unnecessary trouble.
That’s why, you shouldn’t tell everyone everything. And especially in this matter of dreams. “I had scary dreams,” don’t be afraid. With Allah’s ﷻ permission, if you don’t interpret it badly and you don’t tell anyone, nothing will happen.
Or, if you wake up after you see that dream, recite a verse, a surah, or the Fatiha, with Allāh’s ﷻ permission, it won’t cause any harm. Because most people think “It’s like it happened in reality.” When they start telling you about it, “We saw Jinn and fairies.”
These dreams have no effect or harm, with Allāh’s ﷻ permission.
May Allāh ﷻ make the dreams we see a means for goodness. They are a secret of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla that Allah Azza wa Jalla shows people His ﷻ power through. Those dreams are His ﷻ secrets.
While sitting there, a person can see things he’d never imagined, very strange things. It is so that Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla shows that person His ﷻ power. Or “if this were like that, how would it become if we experienced such fear.” Sometimes one sees such terrifying dreams. When he wakes up, he rejoices thinking, “Oh, it was a dream!”
One should thank Allāh ﷻ that such a thing didn’t happen in reality. It was just a dream and it passed in a dream. That, too, is a truly extraordinary thing from the wisdom of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. His ﷻ wisdom is infinite. A person’s mind cannot fathom His ﷻ wisdom.
Some people are investigating how a dream occurs, what happens. Of course, there are several kinds of dreams. Some happen due to the influence of what you did yesterday. Then there are shayṭāni dreams, and there are the rahmāni (divinely) dreams. These are the kinds of dreams, in summary.
May Allāh ﷻ make them a means for goodness. May Allāh ﷻ protect us all from evil. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
Al-Fatiha.
