Adhan Gives Value to Life

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says,

“وَأَذِّن فِي النَّاسِ”

(Qur’an 22:27)

“Wa ‘Adhdhin Fī An-Nāsi”

“And proclaim to the people the Hajj [pilgrimage]; they will come to you on.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

He ﷻ told Sayyidina Ibrahīm to call the adhan after building the Kaa’ba Mu’azzamah. Everyone who heard that adhan certainly goes to ḥajj. It is destined for them.

The adhan is a great blessing that Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has given to believers that it’s recited five times a day. Five times a day, people are called to the Presence of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. That’s why, the adhan is very important. People don’t know its value.

Shukr to Allāh ﷻ, people in Muslim countries hear it five times a day. Five times, whether they remember Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla or not, that is not important. What’s important is hearing that beautiful adhan and having its barakah upon people. It has barakah, whether one prays or not, whether he knows or not. It is a great blessing.

Jibrīl ‘alayhi s-salām calls the adhan in heaven. This same adhan our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam saw in his dreams and the ṣaḥābah called it with their beautiful voices, continues five times a day until the Day of Judgment, with Allāh’s ﷻ permission. It shows the value of time, the value of the time people live.

Years ago, we went to a non-Muslim country. Of course, because we’ve always been in Muslim countries, we realized there was no adhan. We considered the adhan something normal. This was the first time we went to London, England in 1980. There was no sound of the adhan outside. So a person appreciates it then. There is nothing.

They neither have time, nor value for their lives. This is what gives value to life. It is what shows value. Calling to Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla five times, going on the way of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, calling people to guidance, to success, to prayer, to piety is something else. When it is not appreciated, a person knows its value then.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has given believers, Muslims every good thing. There is no badness. And other people are not aware of it. This is a great blessing. It is a great beauty. When it doesn’t exist, there is complete emptiness. Shukr to Allāh ﷻ, when we go to non-Muslim counties, we hear it in our Dergahs and mosques but because people outside don’t hear it, there is a big void.

People there are surprised of this void, and wonder how to fix it. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla who created us, Our Lord Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has given this beauty to everyone. He ﷻ has given it to Muslims and non-Muslims. But whoever takes it, takes it. Whoever does not take it knows for himself. Then, he falls into distress and gets depressed.

Of course, the benefits of adhan are endless. It also reaches who calls the adhan, the mu’adhin. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, wherever his voice reaches, that’s how much reward he gets. They have come up with these weird systems now.

They give the mu’adhin his salary and everything, but he doesn’t call the adhan, the machine will call it, or one person will call it. Whereas each one of them is deprived of that reward.

May Allāh ﷻ guide us. May He ﷻ give people mind and understanding so that they can carry out the Sunnah, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
